Three days after a serious accident landed Jon Leeds in the hospital, he checks himself out and boards a bus to Low Falls looking for Betty, the girl he has been in love with since high school. He finds Betty is now the owner the “The Diner” a landmark in the town with food and pie that the town has enjoyed for longer than most people can remember. Jon's comment about her not marrying her former boyfriend angers Betty. Jon leaves the diner to say hello to people in the town he grew up in and left some years back. However, not one person in town remembers Jon, not even the chief of police who grew up in Low Falls. But the chief does want to know, if someone was riding with Jon when he rolled his car by the fast flowing river. If there was they must have gone into the river. After further conversation with Jon, Betty checks her yearbooks from high school, but she cannot find a picture of Jon in either of them.

Who is Jon? Is he someone that Betty has forgotten about? Could an entire town forget someone? If so, who is Jon Leeds? What can Jon Leeds do to convince Betty that he is from that town?

Jon is confronted by a mysterious man who tells him he can find the answers in Florida. What Jon finds in Florida is a life so filled with grief it causes him to go back to Low Falls and try to forget about The Sunshine State. However it does not explain why no one in the town he grew up in and knows so much about knows him.

For the first time Jerry Still is allowing his slow thinking brother, Ben to participate in one of his crimes. Jerry will have to test Ben on their way from Florida to Ohio. Can the two bumbling crooks steal enough money to get them to their biggest heist ever. Will Ben make the cut? Will the other men waiting for Jerry accept Ben? What role do they play in all this? Is there a connection between the criminals and Jon?
